YouTube’s autoplay feature is designed to determine which videos you wish to view next. It takes out the need to manually do this.
The service will automatically play the next video based on your history of watching videos. Sometimes, however, if you turn the feature on, the YouTube playlist won’t play the next video.
This happens after the first queue video ends. The next video does not start automatically at this point. You can choose to stop it or play the first one in the loop.
YouTube playlist does not play the next video
There could be many reasons why YouTube playlist Autoplay is not working.
- Autoplay has been disabled on your device
- Your device is connected to a metered network
- These videos have been playing for more than four hours
These methods will allow you to create a YouTube playlist that can be played continuously.
1. Every 30 minutes, be active on YouTube
You must be online for at least 30 minutes before you can play YouTube videos on your mobile network. Autoplay won’t start if you aren’t active for at least 30 minutes.
What happens if you use a Wi-Fi network to connect?
Autoplay will then stop playing the next video after 4 hours. YouTube has disabled Autoplay for users who forget to log in.
To play videos, however, you must be present on the platform at all times.

Here’s what to do if the feature has been disabled.
- Open the YouTube app from your device
- Tap on your profile if you’re using Android
- Go to Settings
- Click on Autoplay
- Toggling between the on and off buttons will turn on Autoplay
After turning Autoplay on, open a new playlist and try it again.
3. Update your YouTube app
You can update the YouTube app if you notice that a playlist is not playing automatically.
The iPhone and iPad:
- Visit the App Store
- Click on “Updates”
- If your application is out of date, tap on the Update
Google Play Store > All Apps and Games allows you to do the same thing for Android devices. Next, locate YouTube and click on Update.
4. YouTube Glitch
YouTube Autoplay might not work on mobile due to a glitch.
This can occur when the streaming service wants to release an update or interface. In such cases, you’ll need to wait for YouTube to fix the issue.
