Is it possible that phones get viruses?
Well, not in the conventional sense. Computer viruses are malicious software that infects and corrupts your programs and files, disorders the performance of your computer and only generally causes havoc on your host. But the difference between viruses and other forms of malware is their ability to replicate, the Agent Smith style. Until now, self-replicated malware is not available to Android phones or iPhones, which means that your phone can not receive a “virus” technically — this is only the term used by most people to explain any kind of malicious software.
Android malware comes in many forms from spyware, which collects your personal information for third parties (often advertisers), to mobile ransomware that takes your files as a hostage and asks you to ransom them. The story is a bit different for iPhones. Unlike Android, only the official App Store can download iPhone and iPad apps. This prevents malware from infecting your device with fake applications.

Android sandboxes its apps too, but it’s less restrictive than iOS so that apps get more control over the device. In addition, iOS rolls out its updates simultaneously on all devices while Android still has an update problem. Updates are important because they often contain bug fixes or OS vulnerabilities. The open source system of Android and its delayed update roll-out are two main reasons that Android users should always use an antivirus as an added protection layer such as AVG AntiVirus for Android.
On the other hand, it is very rare for iPhones or iPads to get infected with malware, thanks to Apple’s safety precautions. The exception is for the device to be jailbroken, allowing iPhone and iPad users to download apps from non-App Store sources so that they can be exposed to potential threats.

How to get a virus off an Android phone
There are a few different ways to get rid of any of the symptoms above on your device and suspect you might have a virus.
Google Play is filled with antivirus applications that you can use to scan and remove a virus from your phone.

Step 2: Open the application and tap Scan button Step 3: Wait for the app scans and tests your applications and files for any malicious software

Manually deactivate malicious applications
Step 1: go to Safe Mode Like Windows, go to Safe Mod. This is a great tool that helps you identify the person responsible for the unusual behavior of your Android phone— if the problem goes when your phone is safe, then you know that a malicious app is the fault. Safe Mode also allows you to normally use your phone without interference.
Although many Android phones prompt you to “Reboot to safe mode” after the “Power off” button has been pressed and held down, other steps may be a bit more complex. When done correctly, you should see the “Safe Mode” words at the bottom of the screen of your phone when it is enabled.
Step 2: Identify the malicious application Open your Settings and select the “Manage Apps” tab (or similar). Go to the “Downloaded” tab and search for applications that appear suspicious, such as apps that you can’t remember downloading or shouldn’t work on your computer. Perhaps an app that you downloaded around the time your phone got funky.
Step 3: Uninstall the malicious app You can simply select the malicious app and tap on the “Uninstall” button in most cases. However, if the malware or virus feels like fighting, you may find the “Uninstall” button gray, which means it’s gotten administrator access. See step 4 in this case.
Step 4: Remove Admin Access Go back to Settings and search for “Security.” Tap “Device Administrators” and check to see if there is access to malicious apps. If so, tap the app and “Disable.” The malicious app can now be uninstalled.
