• Comodo IceDragon uses SSL/TLS certificates to encrypt data as it travels between your browser and the website to which you are connected.
  • When you order online, for example, your order form will be protected with a website SSL certificate. It is easy to tell if you are connected over encrypted connections because your website address will start with https:// instead of http:// (with the “s” standing for secure).
  • Additional indicators include a padlock at the address bar, and, in cases of Extended Validation certificates the address bar itself will change to green. The lock signifies that credit card information, such as credit card numbers, is encrypted and cannot be intercepted by a thief.
  • Website SSL certificates contain information that authenticates the website owners. This includes the company name, physical address, and other details. This information allows you to confirm that the website you’re connected to is legitimately owned and operated. Please visit http://www.instantssl.com/ for more details.
  • These certificates can be used to authenticate individuals, encrypt communications, and digitally sign documents. For more details, please visit https://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-products/personal-authentication-certificate.html

Manage your personal and website certificates

  • Click the hamburger/menu button in the top-right
  • Scroll to the Certificates section by selecting ‘Options > ‘Privacy & Safety’

Websites often require a personal certificate to be part of a 2-factor authentication scheme. You will need to enter your username and password as usual. Additionally, you will need to present your certificate.

  • Choose ‘Select one Automatically’ if you wish IceDragon will automatically select one from its certificate collection.
  • Select ‘Ask me every time’ if you wish to manually choose the certificate when asked by a website.
  • ‘Query OCSP response servers – Ice Dragon will perform an Online Certificate Status Protocol, (OCSP), check on every SSL certificate it encounters. OCSP checks determine whether the certificate has been revoked.

You can use the ‘Certificates” configuration settings to:

  • View and Manage the Certificates
  • Install security modules to store passwords and certificates
